Niue is proud of being free of artificial and passive entertainment. Not that there is nothing to do, but the abundance of active entertainment require your personal involvement the activities. Yes, if you are a lazy bum and want to do noting at all, you can still pass you time lying on the beach under an umbrella and listening the waves crashing. Otherwise just watch the huge whales playing nearby from the comfort of the cock tail bar. The activity based pleasures are abundant and offer hours of entertainment. But if you are looking for the traditional entertainment found at all metropolises then you are for a rude shock. Niue does not have single cinema, casino, shopping malls, games parlor or any mass entertainment facilities.
The island has just over ninety hotel rooms and the hotels do offer regular dances on the weekend nights. The Claytons Bar located at Alofi and the Island Style at Avatele are quite popular and are open throughout the Friday and Saturday Nights. These bars have a dance floor and live music to go with. There are a lot many bars opening now days and these are open quite late till night. On the other hand if you are interested in traditional entertainment then you can definitely book a space for one of these social events to have a glimpse of the festive nights.
Niue dos not have a 24x7 culture. The shopping times are fixed and usually are open from 9am to 4pm only. Even the supermarket is open only on Monday to Friday and sticks to the fixed hours. So planning is necessary if you want to buy some thing. Though there are no shopping times regulations in place big shops stick to the timings. Some small shops remain open at other times also but carry a limited variety and most often these are residence based shop. If you cannot locate one, do not hesitate to ask some one of guidance.
