Niue does not have many places of interest as it is very small country with very little contact to the rest of the world.
The Togo Chasm is once such place of interest which all visitors to the island must visit. It is usually a half a day journey to the chasm at the sea edge. This chasm is a fantastic sight in itself as it lays hidden within a landscape made up of concentric lattice like rock swirls. It is a tiny enclave of golden sand and lush green palm trees. The Togo Chasm is a heaven in itself and you must explore every
nook and corner of the chasm on foot and finally at the end of the chasm is a pool of water which is the home of monstrous sized eel. Keep on wondering how an eel came to this place and is surviving even without a supply of fresh water. At the end of the chasm are some caves which can be accesses by a ladder which descends on to the sea. Just stand there and see for yourself the splendor and awe which awaits you there as if you were standing in isolation on top of the world on the Mount Everest. You must hire a guide if you do not want to take any chances of getting lost.
The next important place of interest which you must visit to complete your tour is the Havalu Rainforest which is a virgin and pristine rainforest housing all tropical flora and fauna and almost occupies 20-22% of the area of the whole island. This forest is rich in wildlife and traditional food and is the source of livelihood of the village of Hakupu which lay by it. Being full of varying flora and fauna, there are no dangerous animals of any kind here, nor are any poisonous snake and other reptiles in the forest making it the world’s safest rainforest. The terrains uneven due to its volcanic origin but largely flat. Do not try to explore the forest on your one as you may get lost.
