Outdoor Activities in Niue

The island of Niue is a paradise unspoiled by the pollutants which plague the modern world. A plenty of outdoor sports are available for the natives as well as the tourists.  For the aged or for those who do not want to adventure out there are café’s and pubs by the sea shore. A nine-course golf course is also there for the elite crowd which offers the clubs and a round of golf. The greens keep changing color depending upon the season. The surrounding is simply superb and is anything but a handicap.

Just south of the capital Alofi is a new modern play ground built to international specifications for the children.  The playground was built in 2005 in the memory of Cathay Alec and her child Daniel who lost their lives in the disastrous cyclone Heta.

Niue being just above the sea level with its highest point just 70 meters above the sea level is pretty save for Motor bikes and mountain bikes. There a very few vehicles and the traffic movement is slow and courteous. The island has shops which offer motorcycles and mountain bikes for hire to the tourists for their use at very reasonable rate. The ring road running on the periphery of the entire island takes you to each and every part of the island right through the lush green rainforests and on the wonderful coast live with the scenic beauty of the cliffs unparalleled any where else.

Apart from biking, the island has facilities which are provided to the tourists on pay and use basis. These are sea based activities like fishing, snorkeling, diving, and reef walking. Even underwater visits to the caves and coves lined all across the entire coastline are a wonderful experience in itself never to be forgotten.

Most of these activities are not available on Sunday which is considered to be a true day of rest in the actual meaning of the word.
